Centre for Integrated and Holistic Studies (CIHS) releases its new brief, “USCIRF: An Entity of Concern – Misleading Congress and the American Public on India”. Taking the Commission’s 24 September 2026 statement on Jagtar Singh Johal as its case study, the brief shows a body that gets basic facts wrong, erases the prosecution’s case, and pronounces charges “false” in a trial that is still under way. A routine bail order on grounds of delay becomes, in USCIRF’s hands, a headline about “weaponized” laws. The statement is no aberration. It caps years of selective reporting and sanctions proposals made without evidence. CIHS report concludes that USCIRF has abandoned monitoring for advocacy, misleading the Congress and public it exists to inform, and is itself an entity of concern.
