PRESS RELEASE: CIHS Hosts Interactive Session with the Ambassador of Spain to India on Strengthening of Indo-Spain Relations

New Delhi, June 28, 2025 — The Centre for Integrated and Holistic Studies (CIHS) successfully hosted an engaging and insightful interactive session with H.E. Mr. Juan Antonio March Pujol, Ambassador of Spain to India, at Prime Ministers Museum, New Delhi.  The thought-provoking discussion on the evolving contours of Indo-Spain relations in a rapidly changing global order brought together scholars, students, and policymakers for an open dialogue on bilateral cooperation in the spheres of terrorism, trade, cultural exchange, education, and sustainability.

In his welcome address K.A. Badarinath, Chief Executive and Director at CIHS, emphasised the robust international collaborations, cultural, and democratic values that bind the Indo-Spain Relationship. He highlighted the necessity of enhancing people-to-people connectivity, fostering economic and developmental collaboration, and ensuring counter-terrorism capabilities, security through shared stability to strengthen bilateral ties.

During his address, Ambassador Pujol highlighted the shared values and historical linkages between India and Spain, emphasizing the need to further deepen ties through mutual understanding and multilateral cooperation. “India is a vital partner for Spain in Asia,” he noted, “and both nations stand to benefit greatly from enhanced engagement in key sectors such as renewable energy, digital innovation, tourism, and higher education.”

 “As India asserts a greater role on the world stage, Spain emerges as a natural partner in shaping a democratic, rules-based, and multipolar global order.  India is the mosaic of different cultures, traditions, peace, harmony and spiritualism,” he stated.

During the interactive Q&A session, participants raised thought-provoking questions on topics ranging from EU-India strategic dynamics to collaboration in climate technologies. Ambassador Pujol responded with openness and insight, reiterating Spain’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with India, particularly through the European Union-India Strategic Partnership Roadmap 2025.

Delivering a vote of thanks, Rahul Pawa, Director of Research at CIHS, expressed gratitude to H.E. Juan Antonio March Pujol for his invaluable insights and to the distinguished scholars for their participation and contribution to a meaningful dialogue that reaffirmed the importance of fostering robust and future-ready bilateral relations. “Spain’s unequivocal solidarity with India in confronting terrorism, coupled with its heartfelt support for the victims, strengthens our shared resolve to safeguard our democracies through enhanced engagement and deeper security cooperation,” he noted.

He reaffirmed CIHS’s commitment to strengthening this sacred bond through research, cultural dialogue, serving as a bridge for sustained discussion and sector-specific engagement in the months ahead.

The event concluded on an optimistic note, with a shared vision of deepening cooperation in trade, energy, tourism, and cultural exchanges that will advance Indo-Spain relations in the 21st century.
